Every day, there are incredible leaders of color engaged in some of the hardest work in our world. They walk with people through painful experiences, inspire others where there are few reasons to hope, and highlight beauty in places where it’s overlooked. But unlike many of their white peers, they often must do this work with little to no resources—no pay, small budgets, second jobs, and unnoticed voices. @HopeMob is here to join with them, not to take over their ideas but to support the vision they already are at work realizing. @HopeMob tells these stories of hope in the voices, words, and way these leaders would have it told themselves. We are a community, a mob, supporting these leaders. Every small financial gift connects to provide one large resource to a local leader of color. What you give goes directly to the project and leader. Click here to see our story and support our ministry and others like it.
All are welcome to join us in our journey there are choices of various denials and fasts as well as prayers, meditations and activities for each day. (Disclaimer: We don't participate in Sunday's to observe Sabbath)
If you are in the Chicago area we culminate our 40 days during the week of Palm Sunday to Easter with our 24-7 prayer. Where we sign up for hour long prayer slots at various prayer stations and spend 168 straight hours in prayer. You can also join us for our Morning prayer call M-F at 6:30am.
Will you join us in our love Feast as we fast physically but Feast spiritually? Click here for our Love Feast Pamphlet which details our forty days together.
2017 THEME "The Power of With" John 1:14
"THE POWER OF WITH"
John 1:14 "...The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood" MSG
Our church theme for this year is "The Power of With." We are on a journey to become a new kind of church. A church that recognizes the gifts of all in our community and then activates all of those gifts for kingdom building. We are hoping to be a church serving "with" our community in a way that brings true transformation to the West Englewood and Back of the Yards neighborhoods. This year we are going to begin this transformation with a language change that we hope will lead to a lifestyle change. We are adjusting our language from "I and Me" to "Us and We".
CURRENT SERMON SERIES
The Parables of Jesus
Jesus' parables are seemingly simple and memorable stories, often with
imagery, and all convey messages. Scholars have commented that although
these parables seem simple, the messages they convey are deep, and
central to the teachings of Jesus. Christian authors view them not as
mere similitude's which serve the purpose of illustration, but as
internal analogies in which nature becomes a witness for the spiritual world. We are going to look at divergent and subversive understandings of these parables and try to listen for how these parables may be understood when listening to the voices of the marginalized and oppressed in our society.
